Standardbred horse rescue operation in rural South Auckland

Horsetalk website has reported that SPCA staff and experienced standardbred horse owners are preparing for a major rescue operation involving 31 horses in rural South Auckland after the owner signed them over to the SPCA.

SPCA inspector Vicki Border and a group of experienced horse people at the 10-hectare (25 acre) property later today and the rescue would begin.

Giant duty free store opens at Auckland

The largest duty-free arrivals store in the Asia Pacific region opened in Auckland overnight by the DFS Group.

At store 1600sqm the store is possible because of a controversial deal struck with Auckland Airport giving DFS a monopoly at the airport, ending decades of competition. But while the new store is now open, the controversy is not. The Commerce Commission is investigating the exclusive contract.

Everyone's denying it, but my bet is that we'll no longer get the lowest duty free prices in the Asia Pacific area.

It looks like this is happening just in time as the Institute of Brewing and Distilling's 30th Asia Pacific Section Convention will be held in Auckland from the 6th to the 10th of April and they'll probably have a big thirst as they come through duty free.

Party Pill Madness

Silent running reports that Act on campus is still selling party-pills despite their becoming illegal from today. According to the Act on campus site
Despite the ban, ACT on Campus will today expand our operations by beginning sales of Party Pills via our new website. This move will make discounted Party Pills available to students nationwide and will be used throughout the year as a fundraiser to support ACT on Campus’ election campaign.
With Rodney Hyde's re-imaging I thought that Act had abandoned stunts ant returned to being a party of principle. It must be election year again.
